BUSHENYI - The Archbishop of Mbarara, Paul Kamuza Bakyenga, has decried the never-ending cases of disappearance of people in the country, saying it has created social unrest in some sections of the public.

He said while Uganda is revered for its hospitality, recurrent mysterious cases of kidnaps blight that reputation.

Bakyenga made the remarks while presiding over the silver jubilee celebrations of St. Mary's Vocational School, Kyamuhunga in Bushenyi district.

He told guests, who included politicians, that such happenings are "frightening".

The Archbishop was critical of investigations into cases of disappearance and murder, saying reports never see the light of day.

Mary Karooro Okurut, the minister in charge of general duties, said that while she agreed with the archbishop on the need for worry, the Government has arrested some perpetrators of crimes.

"Your Grace, we are happy that those criminals involved in crimes such as child sacrifice, are being arrested and caught like chicken thieves, one by one. So at least we have something to celebrate," said the minister.

Buhweju MP Francis Mwijukye, who attended the function, said findings of investigations must be availed to the public.

His sentiment was that the political leadership of the country is falling short on accountability to the public.
