KAMPALA - Members of the Catholic community of Vision Group have converged at the parking square of the company's head office to commemorate the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the major/obligatory feasts in the Roman Catholic Church.
The day is celebrated in the belief that God assumed the Virgin Mary into heaven, with her body and soul.
The mass was celebrated by the company's Catholic chaplain, Fr Joseph Kaseeta, who asked the congregation and all Catholics to honour Mary and also, to always seek her intercession.
He blamed those who criticized Catholics for venerating Mary, referring to their accusations as "unfair and unfounded."
"We don't worship Mary. We just venerate her because she is the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, the redeemer of the world who also restored the dignity of human beings after the fall of Adam. Mary is recognized even by Islam. In fact, a whole chapter is devoted to her in the Holy Koran. So, continue to give Mary the honour she deserves. You should also help the critics to understand her role in the salvation story of humankind."
Fr Kaseeta later asked Vision Group Catholics and all Christians to use their bodies to sanctify and glorify God, just like Mary used hers to carry and produce the saviour of the world.
