As Banyakigezi, we still and will continue to acknowledge that it is unity that has always made us succeed right from the past

On Sunday, August 11, at 2:00 pm all roads will lead to All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero where Christians (Abakuristayo) hailing from the Diocese of Kigezi as well as their friends working in and around Kampala will be witnessing the launch of Kigezi Diocese Kampala Chapter.

The launch will be presided over by the Rt. Rev. Eng. George Bagamuhunda, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi.

This activity will be hinged on the need to fellowship and bond together as a family of God, but equally a time for our bishop to harness ways of how Christians can take up development programme agendas for the diocese in order to build a strong Church that is economically empowered for the future of our country.

The launch will equally be a true testimony that the bishop believes in unity and fellowship with Christians from all walks of life.

We must recall that our bishop is known for promoting unity, reconciliation as well as self help and development projects.

As a growing Church, this can be achieved through constant fellowship with one another and most importantly, knowing that while outside our diocese, we have a common meeting ground and the reason why this chapter will live to be a true realisation and mentorship forum for our growing young generation.

For others who may not be aware, Kigezi Diocese boasts projects such as water, education institutions and health facilities that serve all humanity without discrimination. I John 4:20 say,

"You cannot profess to love God whom you have not seen yet you hate your neighbour whom you see on a daily basis." Friends love is eternal and as Christians, if we are not selfish, we are meant to love and co-exist with one another.

Through this principle of love, our diocese has been able to construct water tanks with capacity of 20,000 or 50,000 litres at even Catholic schools such as Kabere Roman Catholic Church, Rubanda Solidarity Primary School and Nyakihanga Roman Catholic Church.

This water serves communities without discriminating among who worships from where.

This is the power of unity that our Kigezi Diocese leadership has established which should be emulated by the Christian fraternity in the world.

Our Church also boasts serious academic institutions such as a university and several secondary schools. Through the education system, many children have been raised through church schools such as Bunangana Primary School, Kigezi High School Primary, Hornby High School Primary (this caters for disabled children at no cost), Kigezi High School, Bishop Kivengere Girls School, Muyebe to mention but a few.

It is imperative that the diocese also started the Bishops Scholarship Fund that offers scholarship opportunities to vulnerable children. Also we have had Compassion International helping the needy children in terms of education and there are millions of beneficiaries.

Let us salute the leadership and thank God, because it is not easy to have 211 primary schools, 30 secondary schools, two vocational schools, one primary teachers college, one nursing and midwife training centre and one university as of 2018 and this cannot be taken for granted.

Incomparably, Rugarama Health Centre was elevated to hospital status and its one of the best health facilities in the Kigezi sub-region and this has been made possible by the support that comes from different stakeholders, you inclusive.

This convinces us that we have at least some church leaders who are working for their flock (John 21:17) and making communities better than they found them in a bid to be true soldiers of God.

Therefore, recalling that as Banyakigezi, we still and will continue to acknowledge that it is unity that has always made us succeed right from the past; it is now time to re-face the truth and become a beacon of hope for our future church by having a Christian Kampala Chapter launched in a bid to keep us and our children in humble fellowship with our original churches and friends.

You are all invited. "Come now let us reason together." — Isaiah 1:18.
