Retired teacher burnt to death

RUKINGIRI - A retired teacher was found dead in his house after he was burnt on Wednesday.

The police identified the deceased as Adonia Bamanyisa, a resident of Bwambala village in Rukungiri district.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, the key suspect is the deceased's wife Keloy Bamanyisa.

 

Maate said according to reports, Keloy told their grandsons to go and sleep leaving her and the husband in the sitting room having supper.

"As the children slept, they heard the deceased fighting with the suspect and she was throwing plates at him. The deceased ran for safety to the bedroom and locked himself inside," said Maate.  

Keloy allegedly followed him, but could not get access to him since the door was locked. She later, according to Maate, picked a matchbox with old newspapers and pushed the fire under the door.

"Inside the room was a generator which had petrol and thus caught fire which spread, burning Bamanyisa. The nearby police station at Bwambala was notified and they rushed to the scene,  arrested  Keloy and took the body to Mbarara referral hospital for postmortem."

Relatedly, Rukungiri Police are investigating the circumstances under which a 30-year-old woman died, allegedly after committing suicide. The incident according to Police happened on August 1, at around 1:00 pm. 

She was identified as Ronah Tayebwa, a businesswoman and resident of Ihendamata cell, Bambara sub-county, Rukungiri district.
