Government releases sh5.7 trillion

Out of the sh5.7trillion released for government entities, the finance ministry has provided sh445b as funding to the National Airline.

The finance ministry has released a total of sh5,743b (Sh5.7trillion) to various government entities for quarter one expenditure for the 2019/2020 financial year. 
 
The first quarter expenditure release was announced today by the permanent secretary to finance treasury, Keith Muhakaniza while addressing the press at the ministry head office.
 
The sh5.7trillion excludes the money released for the debt repayment, treasury operations and capitalization of Bank of Uganda. The total amount of money released is therefore sh9.2trillion.
 
Out of the sh5.7trillion released for government entities, the finance ministry has provided sh445b as funding to the National Airline to enable the purchase of the next fleet of 2 bombardiers. 
 
Among all sectors, the works and transport sector has been allocated the biggest amount of money of sh2.3trillion, the bulk of which will be going towards the construction of roads. In the sh40.5trillion national budget for the 2019/2020 financial year, the works and transport sector was allocated a total of sh6.4trillion.
 
The defence and veterans ministry has been allocated sh996.2b of which sh664.8b is for recurrent expenditure and sh33.4b for development expenditure.
 
The National Medical Stores has been given sh131b for procuring and supplying drugs to public hospitals.
 
The Parliament of Uganda has been given sh220b for spending in the three months of July, August, and September.
