Early Childhood Education (ECD) teachers have been implored to understand the language and terminology applied in teaching and creating a good environment for children.

Tammy-Leigh Sage an expert in ECD from the Victoria Villages Children's Services in Canada said the way children are raised in the early stages is very crucial, noting that it determines their future.

Tammy made the remarks during the opening of the ECD teachers training at the SOS Children's Villages Entebbe Wakiso district.

It attracted teachers from Wakiso, Kabarole and Gulu district.

The ECD involves the teaching of children from 0-8 years. It introduces children to learning skills and reading.

Tammy noted that this year's training will focus on enabling teachers to learn the best language used in teaching learners in ECDs.

"We are going to look at the ideas of creating an environment for the children to have belonging and the tools required in teaching the children," said Tammy.

The National Director of the SOS Children's Villages Uganda, Olive Lumonya said one of the major objectives of the partnership is to train ECD teachers in effective ECD learning practices.

Lumonya said the training will cover over 100 teachers in only one year.

"Look at the impact of training ECD teachers and look at the impact it creates to the children you teach. You averagely teach over 43 children in the classes," said Lumonya.

She tasked the trainees to pick interest in training so that they can go back and cause an Impact.

"I expect each trainee to have an impact on at least 100 children in this country," she said.

She observed that training of ECD teachers is the foundation of the young generation and that it will act as a springboard for sustainable development.

"With the skills, attitude, knowledge and values advanced to the teachers, I have no doubt that you will cause an impact in ECD," she said.

Lumonya disclosed that they target to train up to 5000 teachers at the grassroots in line with government goals to have ECDs teachers at all primary schools skilled.

She noted that as teachers the age 0-8 the most critical time for a child and that is the age that has not received support.

She disclosed that the training is going to be carried out in 5 years.
