Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago says according to the Local government Act, local governments are supposed to collect tax and arrears when the tax is due.

Kampala Capital City Authority has waived off over 10 billion shillings in Property rate tax arrears.

The Chairperson KCCA Standing Committee on Revenue, Doreen Sabuka, says the City Authority has accumulated over 10 billion shillings in property rate arrears for over six years in the divisions.

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago says according to the Local government Act, local governments are supposed to collect tax and arrears when the tax is due, but they received numerous petitions from people, saying that they have debts dating back more than four years ago.

However, the KCCA acting deputy executive director Sam Serunkuuma had opposed the decision, saying it will affect the authority's budget.
