Police in Kakumiro district are investigating circumstances under which unidentified assailants ambushed and killed a man a few hours before his traditional marriage ceremony.

The deceased has been identified as Geoffrey Byaruhanga, 35, a resident of Rwenswa, Nyabirungi parish, Kisiita sub-county. He was allegedly ambushed on Saturday night at about 10:00pm while travelling on a motorcycle with a friend.

John Kahinda, the father to the deceased, said the assailants blocked the motorcycle using a log. They then hit Byaruhanga to death with a piece of wood and injured his friend only identified as Paul.

“I was called on the phone that my son had been attacked and we rushed to the scene only to find his body. He was murdered a day before the function, Kahinda said.

The Kakumiro district Police commander, Najjib Waiswa, said Police had begun investigations into the matter.

The Bugangaizi East Member of Parliament, Onesmas Twinamatsiko, who rushed to the scene of crime with several other residents condemned the act and asked Police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

“Police must investigate this murder case thoroughly and bring the culprits to book so as to curtail such incidents in the community,” Twinamatsiko said.

Twinamatsiko said the deceased had separated with another woman before deciding to marry his latest catch.
