The Super 8 is a competition that comprises of the top six teams in the topflight last season and two teams that were promoted from FUFA Big League.
These are KCCA, Vipers, URA, Tooro United, Mbarara City, Onduparaka, Proline and Wakiso Giants.
"We believe such a competition will help to improve the competitiveness of the teams. This is also a good build-up ahead of the 2019/20 season," stated FUFA marketing committee chairman Rogers Byamukama.
Speaking at the launch, the Uganda Breweries head of beer in the marketing department, Estella Muzito stated that this year's prize money has been doubled from sh30m last season to sh68m.
The winning team will receive sh20m, runners up sh12m, third-placed team sh10m and fourth sh8m. The fifth to eight teams will receive sh5m, sh4m and sh3m respectively.
"Football as well all know is Uganda's biggest sport and Uganda Breweries is proud to be part of the growth of local football through this sponsorship. Pilsner already sponsors the player and coach awards in the Uganda Premier League," noted Muzito.
A new format introduced this year will see teams play three games each to be ranked from first to the eighth position. The competition kicks off on July 24 to August 24.
The winners of the first round matches will qualify to the next level while the losers will play classification ties to decide which position each team will finish.
