Uganda Cranes interim coach Abdullah Mubiru first target will be looking at improving on the striking force of the national team preparing to take on Somalia in the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Qualifiers later this month.

Mubiru revealed this after conducting his first training session with the team at Lugogo.

The winner between Uganda and Somalia over the two legs will face the victorious side between Burundi and South Sudan in the second round.

Apart from Ethiopia, a total of 47 (out of 53) CAF member national teams entered the qualifying rounds, split into zones according to their regional affiliations

The teams are going to be engaged in the battle for 15 places to join hosts Cameroon for the final tournament that will be in its sixth edition and is designed exclusively for footballers playing in their domestic leagues.

The competition that will be hosted between January and February 2020 in Cameroon has given chance to many players that played their senior national teams to expose their talent to the outside world.

Morocco who were the hosts of the previous edition (2018) managed to defeat Nigeria 4-0 in the final walk away with the Championship.

Uganda that has featured in the last four editions of the championship have not gone past the group stages. In Morocco, Cranes managed to finish third with one point out of the three games they played.
