Over 20 people were seriously injured in an accident that occurred at Katosi village in Kiganda town council along Mubende highway on Saturday evening.

A bus carrying passengers to Kasese registration number UBF 764 A collided head-on with a saloon car registration number UAW 424 F that was heading to Kampala.

Eyewitnesses said the poor state of the road at the scene of the accident would have caused it.

"The driver of the saloon car was trying to dodge the pothole with stagnant water along the road when it collided with the bus," Hussein Kintu, an eye witness said.

Both the saloon car and the bus veered off the road and rolled down in a trench, leaving passengers injured.

Kintu said two people were pulled out of the saloon car and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

In the bus, victims were also pulled out by the residents who had rushed to the scene and were taken to different health units.

Residents appealed to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to always inspect these roads and ensure that they are safe.

"Whenever it rains, water fills the pot-holes and road users find a problem. We appeal to UNRA to always monitors the roads because as residents we cannot just tamper with them," Godfrey Kassaja, a resident of Kalamba in Kiganda town council said.

Last week, two UPDF soldiers from The Chieftaincy Mubende Rehabilitation Centre were killed in an accident a few kilometers from where the bus accident occurred. The two were riding on a motorcycle when they were knocked by a speeding taxi.
