Museveni pays tribute to Mukwano

The President said that Karmali was a man of action and regretted that he died at the time when the country needed his expertise

The body of former business mogul, Amirali Karmali popularly known as Mukwano who passed away on Wednesday due to illness has been laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Kololo.

Several mourners who defied the early morning rain joined in the public body viewing of the late businessman's remains at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to pay their last respects of a man whose name has become a household item in Uganda.

In a condolence message read for him by the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi during the viewing at Kololo on Saturday morning, President Yoweri Museveni described Karmali as a true patriot who made a big contribution to the economy.

Museveni said that Karmali championed the startup of business enterprises in agriculture, manufacturing, financial services, and real estate development and logistics in the country employing several Ugandans and transforming their lives.

In the message extended to the family and the Indian community in Uganda on behalf of the government and the people of Uganda, the President said that Karmali was a man of action and regretted that he died at the time when the country needed his expertise and knowledge of how to succeed in business starting small as he did.

The function at Kololo that preceded the burial was attended by several the government officials, those of Tooro Kingdom where Karmali had several enterprises, representatives of diplomatic missions, business persons and staff of Mukwano enterprises
