Rubona SS gets sh700m dormitory

It was joy and jubilations on Tuesday as the Germany ambassador commissioned a sh700m girls' dormitory at Rubona Secondary School in Bunyangabu district.

The headteacher, Margaret Nabudde, said the dormitory will accommodate students from hard-to-reach areas of Katebwa, Kabonero and Kyamukube town council, who have been reporting late or missing classes.

"The dormitory will help to accommodate girls who have been traveling from long distances to access education," Nabude said.

Nabude said the dormitory which was constructed by Neuruppin Evangelical School community a Germany charity organisation has the capacity to accommodate over 200 students.

Defence minister and Bunyangabu County Member of Parliament Adolf Mwesige commended the Germany for supporting schools in the district.

Mwesige said the education ministry will also construct a library block at the school to accommodate the increasing numbers of students.

"We are going to lobby for more buildings because the number of students has been increasing over time," he said.

Mwesige also said the Government had launched the construction works of a sh1.9b seed school in Kiyombya sub-county.

He said after completion the school will have a modern ICT and science laboratory, six classrooms, a staff house and an administration block.

Dr Albrecht Conze, the Germany ambassador to Uganda said the Germany government was committed to supporting the education of girls in Uganda.

"Over the years, Germany has supported various projects in Uganda aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people," Conze said.
