KAMPALA - Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court has adjourned a case in which Magara murder suspect Patrick Agaba alias Pato is charged with kidnap.

The adjournment came after the residents' states attorney Jackeline Akao requested the court to adjourn the case due to the ongoing investigations.

"Your worship, investigations in the matter are still ongoing, I request for an adjournment to allow us to make exhaustive inquiries," Akao requested.

Agaba, who appeared via video conferencing before Grade One Magistrate Jude Okumu, is battling with charges of kidnapping Joan Alupo Cora, with intent to attain a ransom from her relatives.

"Since state inquiries are still ongoing, I adjourn this case to July 12, 2019, and you are further remanded," Okumu ruled.

Prosecution alleges that on May 1, 2013, Agaba and others still at large, while in Muyenga in Kampala, kidnapped Alupo, with intent to procure a ransom from her relatives in exchange for her safety.

It is further alleged that the accused (Agaba) kidnapped and held Alupo for two days and allegedly demanded $150,000 which later was increased to $400,000 as a ransom for her release.

Prosecution further contends that the accused and others still at large asked Alupo's family to wire the money to different accounts in Japan and Tanzania.

Prior, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) also revealed that in a bid to arrest the alleged kidnapper, he (Pato) freed Alupo and fled.

Alupo kidnappers are linked to Suzan Magara's murder of which Pato is inclusive.

Magara was kidnapped on February 7, 2018, along Kabaka Anjagala road in Mengo on her way to her residence in Lungujja and later killed on 27 of the same month in Kigo in Wakiso district.

Pato was arrested in South Africa last year and extradited back to Uganda after over 15 months of government officials making back and forth trips to South Africa, to ensure his banishment.
