KABALE - Police have heavily deployed at Kabale district headquarters ahead of the council meeting.

The Tuesday meeting is anticipated to be chaotic and armed police officers under the command of the district police command, Brian Ampaire, and the head of field force unit, Henry Kisembo, are patrolling the district council hall.

The extraordinary council session follows dissatisfaction from a section of councilors over what they call the reluctance of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Darius Nandida, to investigate shoddy work by Riky Construction Company at Kasheregyenyi health center III. The construction was previously halted by the deputy RDC, Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju.

Rugaju had ordered to halt the construction on May 15, 2019, citing shoddy work, but later Nandida ordered the construction to resume, which annoyed some councilors. They have since called for the RDC's impeachment or transfer.

The Kabale district police commander, Brian Ampaire, said the deployment is to ensure order and security of people during the council session.

"We are here to fulfill our mandate of keeping law and order since there is a likelihood of chaos in today's session," said Ampaire.

The council hall is full of both councillors and other residents waiting for the session that will be chaired by the speaker, Loy Zikampereza.
