First Lady lauds Uganda Cranes on victory

Uganda Cranes started their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt with a convincing 2-0 win against DR Congo.

The First Lady, who is also the minister of Education and Sports has lauded the Uganda Cranes upon their superb performance after they beat DR Congo in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Egypt.

In a tweet, Janet Museveni said: "I have received the news of the (Uganda) Cranes's first win and as always, we are praying for them to win all the three games. We know that with God's help we can do it. We are very proud of the Cranes' performance and we knew that they would do it. We give all the honour and glory to God." 

Earlier on, President Yoweri Museveni had also sent a congratulatory message to the team for the victory and wished them the best in other games.

"Congratulations to Uganda Cranes for that emphatic 2-0 victory over DR Congo in their opening game of #AFCON2019. We are confident you will post more positive results as the tournament progresses and the country wishes you success. Well done!"

Patrick Kaddu headed in the first goal in 14 minutes from a corner and Emma Okwi also scored a header in minute 48 from a free kick. With a 2-0 win, Uganda now tops Group A ahead of hosts Egypt who won 1-0 against Zimbabwe yesterday in the opening game. 

Uganda's next game is against Zimbabwe on Wednesday.
