VOCATIONAL DIPLOMA TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Nakawa Vocational Training Institute is a Public institute under the Ministry of Education and Sports supervised by BTVET department. It was established in 1970 through a bilateral co-operation between the Governments of Uganda and Japan with JICA as an executing agency.

The institute offers several skills trainings which include Basic, Upgrading, Tailor made, Instructor and Managers' Programmes.

The Institute is implementing a TVET-LEAD Project with support from JICA whose overall goal is to develop capacity of the institute's human resources to respond to the needs of the private sector. One of the key outputs of the project is to have Vocational Diploma programmes in Electrical and Automobile Engineering established.

Working with Industries, Vocational Diploma Curricula were developed to meet the Industrial needs. In 2017, the curricula and the institute were accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to start offering Vocational Diploma Programmes in Electrical and Automobile Engineering and they commenced in August 2018. These programmes were designed to produce highly skilled and competent technicians and it also provides a career progression to related engineering Degree programmes. The examining bodies are both UBTEB and DIT's UVQF Level 4.
