Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango believes his side has what it takes to upset DR Congo in their opening of the Nations Cup this Saturday in Egypt.

"We have a team to overcome the quality of our opponents on Saturday. The previous AFCON was difficult because it came after 39 years. Back to back qualification means a lot to us but there is no easy group at AFCON," stated Onyango.

Onyango revealed this during in an interview after the team touched base in Cairo on Monday ahead of the competition that will get underway on Friday with hosts taking on Zimbabwe.

"We play as a team to make me a better goalkeeper since I believe we have done enough preparations for this competition," added Onyango.

The AFCON finals have 24 teams taking part for the first time. Uganda is placed in Group A alongside hosts Egypt, Zimbabwe, and DRC.

Cranes who will be making their second appearance in the Nations Cup after 37 years of waiting will need to be at their best if they to progress to the knockout round.
