Police warns against counterfeit products

The director Interpol and international affairs Benson Oyo-Nyeko has said that they have intercepted and seized four tons of fake sachets of alcohol and 250 cartons of counterfeit cosmetics products and warned dealers against trading such products as they are detrimental to humans.

"The operation was code-named FAGIA auction and it mainly targeted counterfeit and substandard goods in our markets. The operation was conducted within a period of five days within the Kampala Metropolitan area," said Oyo-Nyeko.

He said that during the operation they managed to seize a number of items which were found to be counterfeit or substandard.

"Today, what we are witnessing is a process of destruction of these items. When we took them for testing, we found them unable to meet the required standards," he added.

Oyo-Nyeko noted that the sellers willingly surrendered their items and through agreement and consent, they admitted that they be destroyed.

The products that were imported from West Africa were intercepted in an operation carried out jointly with the Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda National Bureau of Standards, Stop counterfeit in Africa and various security agencies.

They impounded products are going to be destroyed in Nakasongola district.
