KAMPALA - Pupils of Maama junior school Malaba, under their school water and sanitation club have participated in the cleaning exercise of Tororo main hospital. This is part of their commitment to inculcate the spirit of community service to the learners.

Led by the head teacher George Obura, the pupils swept and picked rubbish from most parts of the hospital.

They also visited the antenatal department where they interacted with hundreds of mothers who had turned up for checkup and immunization of their children.

Obura said the gesture is in recognition of the effort the institution is playing in saving lives. He said being a beneficiary of the services offered by the institution, it was paramount to acknowledge their efforts.

The medical superintendent Dr. Thomas Ochar applauded the school administration for engaging the pupils in practical activities that make them appreciate community services rather than engaging only in academics.

The pupils also participated in environment conservation around Malaba by planting several seedlings of trees.

Under the schools' water and sanitation clubs, with support from National Water and Sewerage Cooperation, participating schools are challenged with the responsibility of championing the campaign to restore wetlands and preserving the environment by planting as many trees as possible.
