The 70-year-old Victoria Nyanza Sailing Club member used his experience to claim the fastest boat.

Veteran sailor Kim Bowerman was in great form on the Lake Victoria waters as the Entebbe Laser Open ended in Entebbe on Sunday.

The 70-year-old Victoria Nyanza Sailing Club member used his experience to claim the fastest boat, won the Russel Deering Martin trophy and finished second overall in the Entebbe Laser Open competition to walks away with four mugs in the competition that attracted 26 competitors.

It was his third victory in a row having won the same competition in 2017 and 2018.

"Twenty years ago, I could hardly sail but gradually I kept on getting better by concentrating in every race," Bowerman who is headed to competing in the British Masters in July said.

"The trick is just to put your mind to it. We want more Ugandans to join this sport. We want them to enjoy what we are enjoying because it is great fun. The wind was tricky and you had to work around it,"

It was the same message from Annabel Bowerman, a wife to Kim who came third in the Russel Deering Martin trophy and emerged as the best Entebbe sailor.

"I'm 62 so this sport doesn't discriminate, so I encourage more Ugandan ladies to come and joins us because we need more because the club is very friendly and the sport keeps you fit and its fun," Anabell said.

Another star in the event held over two weekends was ten-year old Horemans Charlotte who finished in 18th place overall.

Sylvie Ovellet the Entebbe Sailing Club Sailing Secretary said they are trying to promote more sailing for people in Entebbe of all classes including the juniors, men and women and to discover the beauty and promote the club.

"We encourage people to get involved in more water activities, so we invite people to come and enjoy. This year we had a record participation of 26 boats and we are happy that our relationship with Kaazi is improved and growing," Ovellet said.

Next in line at the Entebbe Sailing Club are three fishing competitions to be held later in the year.
