The Archbishop of the province of the Church of Uganda His Grace Reverend Dr.Stanley Ntagali called on Christians in Uganda to adopt modern architectural designs for church construction.

Ntagali gave the advice while laying a foundation stone for the construction of the heptagonal Church of St. Phillips Church of Uganda Kawojani, Kabwangasi, archdeaconry of Butebo in Bukedi diocese.

“We have to avoid building churches and cathedrals with pillars inside because it is outdated and I don’t want the future generation to blame us for this avoidable act. We have cathedrals in Kampala,  Namirembe which has a capacity of 5,000 Christians  but it has no pillars.

Dr. Ntagali Who had breakfast with  his entourage  at the home of Elizabeth Aisu a widow of Puti village in Kabwangasi sub-county  said the pillars occupy space meant for Christians to sit as they pray.

He thanked Aisu for being generous to the church of God at Kawojani as her family contributed 90% of the 300 million needed for the completion of the church.

“I bless this family and all those committed to service of the Church of God saying Jesus Christ is the husband of widows and a father  to  orphans who will not leave them suffer.”

Aisu who is the chairperson of the building committee of St.Phillips Church of Uganda Kawojani said they would follow Ntagalai’s suggestion to redesign the roofing plan without pillars.

“The engineer had told us that the pillars were valueless as the metals were going to be used but our Christians insisted but now that they have heard from Lord archbishop they have to abide by the guidance “, Aisu said.

However, the residents of Puti expressed great joy for what they called a historical event when Ntagali accepted to have a meal in their locality.

Rebecca Okiring said it was God’s arrangement for Dr. Ntagali to spare time and accept to go to Puti village and have breakfast and socialize with Christians freely.

After Kawojani Ntagalai went St. John Butebo were he conducted a service with over 12,000 Christians in attendance drawn from the archdeaconries of Pallisa, Butebo, Kibuku, and Budaka.

Natagali  said his cross country tour is to bid Christians farewell as he will retire next year.

“I call upon all those in offices always to prepare for retirement and avoid being taken by surprise. Am so happy to have Muslims led by AdbuKarim Mujumbi coming to bid me farewell as well”, Ntagali said.

Samuel Egesa Bogere the Bukedi diocese bishop applauded Christians for the love they have for Ntagali as he prepares to retire.

“He is retiring from office as Archbishop but not from the service of the Lord’s ministry.
