The African Union Peace Support Operations Division (AU PSOD) has saluted African Union troops in Somalia for exhibiting bravery in battle and risking their lives to bring peace and stability to Somalia and the continent.

The delegation from the AU PSOD was on a working visit to assess the operations of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

They also met AMISOM leadership, led by Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Special Representative to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, the Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Tigabu Yilma Wondimhunegn, and the Acting Police Commissioner, Rex Dundun.

The delegation then travelled to Nairobi, Kenya to visit injured AMISOM soldiers who are receiving specialised care in various hospitals.

The delegation led by Maj. Gen. Francis Okello, the Chief of the Plans and Operations Unit in the AUPSOD, also included Dr. Komlan Moreira, the AMISOM Medical Planning Officer and Maj. Gen. Fidza Dludlu, the AMISOM Head of Mission Support.

After interacting with the injured soldiers, Maj. Gen. Okello noted, "The patients are in high spirits, and are receiving adequate medical attention."

They also received detailed briefing on each of the injured soldiers from the health professionals.

"The African Union is doing what it can to secure Africa. We want to thank the hospitals for treating our personnel who are contributing to make Somalia a safe place," Maj. Gen. Okello told medics during the visit.
