International Crimes Division of the High Court will also rule on the bail application of former acting Tabliq leader sheikh Yahaya Ramadhan Mwanje

The International Crimes Division of the High Court will on Wednesday afternoon determine whether eight men accused of murdering the former Police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, have fulfilled bail conditions warranting their temporary freedom.

They are Abdul-Rashid Mbaziira, Aramanzani Noordin Higenyi alias Taata Abdullazack, Yusuf Mugerwa alias Wilson, Bruhan Balyejusa alias Jimmy Masiga Ogutu, Joshua Magezi Kyambadde alias Abdu Rahman, Jibril Kalyango alias Abu Aisha, Yusuf Siraje Nyanzi alias Jimmy Ssentamu and Shafik Kasujja.

On March 19, trial judge Lydia Mugambe released each of them on a non-cash bail of sh150m while their sureties were bonded at sh250m not cash but they were remanded pending verification of their places of abode and national identity cards by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA).

The prosecution alleges that the group between January and March 2017 in diverse districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Jinja, Iganga, Bugiri, Busia, Tororo and others still at large for purposes of influencing government involved themselves in the murder of Kaweesi.

Kaweesi was killed in cold blood on March 17, 2017, in the city suburb of Kulambiro in Nakawa division together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Geoffrey Mambewo.

However, Mbaziira and Higenyi's hopes to regain freedom are far from reality as they face another set of capital offences including Kidnap of juveniles before Mukono Chief Magistrate's Court.

Kiggundu case

The same court will also rule on the bail application of former acting Tabliq leader Sheikh Yahaya Ramadhan Mwanje, a key suspect in the murder of former Uganda People's Defence Force soldier, Maj Muhammad Kiggundu.

Kiggundu was killed in cold blood on November 26, 2016, at Masanafu trading centre in Rubaga division together with his bodyguard Sgt Stephen Mukasa.
