Uganda Cubs keep World Cup hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Tanzania

On Wednesday, the youngsters handed the U17 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Tanzania a 3-0 drubbing to register their first win in the competition.

 
Having kicked off their campaign for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil this year with a 1-0 loss to Angola, the Uganda Cubs knew only a win in their next game would keep their hopes alive.
 
On Wednesday, the youngsters handed the U17 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Tanzania a 3-0 drubbing to register their first win in the competition.
 
Andrew Kawooya opened the scoring for Uganda in the 16th minute at the Tanzania main national stadium in Dar es Salaam.
 
Ivan Asaba who was man of the match added a second in the 28th minute to end the first half 2-0 in favour of Uganda.

Najib Yiga was to get the Uganda Cubs the third goal in the 77th minute and ensured the youngsters picked all three points ahead of their final group game on Saturday against Nigeria who already have 6 points from two games.
 
Uganda has three points, same as Angola and will need to beat the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria to make it to the U17 World Cup and keeps hopes of lifting the U17 Africa Cup of Nations alive.
 
On the same day, Angola will take on the Serengeti boys who are yet to win a single game in the competition and will be playing for pride.
 
The two top teams in Groups A and B will qualify for the biennial U-17 World Cup to be hosted by Brazil later this year.
