Robbers attack cop, steal gun

Opio was enjoying a cup of tea at around 7:30pm on April 14, at his home at the Police Post, when “these thugs” armed with knives pounced on him.

Walter Opio, a Police Constable at Alalam Police Post in Bukwo district is nursing wounds following an attack by unknown people.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Police deputy publicist, Polly Namaye told the New Vision, they were already hunting for the thugs.

She noted that the thugs also took off with Opio's gun and 30 rounds of ammunition.

"Our officer was rushed to hospital and his is undergoing treatment. A team of our Policemen are already hunting for the suspects to face the law," she added.

In a related incident, Namaye said the Police is also investigating the circumstances under which one Gorette Arot 25, a resident of Namugongo, was murdered. The incident occurred on April 14, near Nsambya Police Barracks. 

Four suspects including Arot's boyfriend identified as Wycliffe Senabulya, 23, with whom they had a child.

Other suspects are; Harriet Hawumba,19, a student at Cavendish University, Watson Davis Kalyango, 22, and John Julius Seremba 22.

Namaye said the Police discovered that Hawumba was in a relation with Senabulya; and the deceased had found them together when she had gone to get support for the child.

She said all suspects are detained at Kabalagala Police Station pending investigations.
