KAMPALA - A team from the transport ministry and Uganda Airlines, headed by the works and transport minister Eng. Monica Azuba Ntege, on Wednesday told Parliament's legal affairs committee that the Bombardier aircraft are expected in the country on April 23.

This ruffled the session as legislators wanted certainty on the date the planes will arrive in the country following the postponement of their initial arrival.

Minister Azuba underlined the word expect because the date is subject to changes and unforeseen circumstances.

For example, the ministry's team stressed that the date is also subject to approval from State House on the availability of President Yoweri Museveni to receive the planes.

The ministry team assured the committee that all payments on the planes have been made and an advance team is already in Canada to foresee the delivery of the aircraft to Uganda.

The committee heard that the planes will make stopovers in Iceland, The Netherlands and Egypt, before landing at Entebbe International Airport.

State minister for transport Aggrey Bagiire explained that the Bombardier aircraft that Uganda is purchasing are short-range planes that cannot fly several hours because of low endurance.
