Namirembe diocese mourns Canon Njagala

The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, the Rt Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has spoken highly of Canon Godfrey Njagala, a veteran educationist and radio-evangelist who succumbed to cancer-related complications on Saturday (March 30) at the age of 75.
Luwalira described Njagala as a "great teacher, preacher and true witness of Christ," who helped many people to know Christ through his media programmes. The Prelate delivered his tribute message during the funeral service of Canon Njagala at St Paul's Cathedral, Namirembe on Monday (April 1). The four-hour-long service was graced by thousands of mourners, who filled up the gigantic Cathedral.
Among the mourners were also Anglican prelates like Bishop Dunstan Kopliano Bukenya (Emeritus, Mityana), Bishop Jackson Matovu (Emeritus, Central Buganda), Bishop George Ssinabulya (Emeritus, Central Buganda), Dr Evans Mukasa Kisekka (Emeritus, Luweero), Dr Eliphaz Maari (Emeritus, Kampala) and Bishop Elidad Nsubuga (Luweero).
Canon Njagala was also mourned by the employees of Vision Group head office, where his son Andrew Tusuubira works.
Further to being a highly influential evangelist, Canon Njagala made a significant contribution to the education sector.
He taught and headed educational institutions like Namutamba Teachers' College, Makerere High School, and Seroma Christian High School. He also presented Christian programmes on evangelistic and secular radio stations like Namirembe FM and UBC.
He further worked with institutions like YMCA, St Stephen's Hospital, Mpereerwe, Buloba High School, Naalya Schools, Cleveland Hill School, CAB Schools Namutamba and Mityana Secondary School. He also worked with Elite High School, Buloba Demonstration School, Yogemu Primary School, West Minster University and Ndejje University.
In recognition of his exemplary Christian life and devotion to the Church and the country, Bishop Copliano Bukenya bestowed on Njagala the ecclesial honour of Canon in 2005.
Canon Njagala was buried at the family's ancestral burial grounds at Busense, Masaka on Tuesday, April 2.
He is survived by his wife Miriam Njagala and nine children, who include Rev Justus Miwanda and Andrew Tusuubira of Vision Group.
Even in death, Canon Njagala continues to touch lives. During the funeral service at Namirembe Cathedral, a number of Christians, who included his son Andrew Tusuubira, decided to commit their life to Christ.
