At least 50 people were killed and 50 injured about two weeks ago in a mass shooting at two mosques in New Zealand city of Christchurch.

The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubaje on Friday last week led tens of thousands of Muslims in a funeral prayer (Swalatul Ghaib) for the victims of recent New Zealand Terrorist attack.

The prayers took place at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters, Old Kampala last Friday.

Speaking after the prayers, deputy Mufti of Uganda Abdullah Ssemambo condemned the attack, saying such barbaric, racist and extremists' attacks should not weaken the resolve of muslims to hold onto their faith and co-exist with people from other religions.

At least 50 people were killed and 50 injured about two weeks ago in a mass shooting at two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch.  Following the shootings, Brenton Tarrant, 28, was arrested, taken into custody and charged with murder.

"There are such extremists in all religions whose actions are aimed at destroying humanity," said Ssemambo,"

However, he called for dialogue as opposed to confrontation as the best way of addressing misunderstandings.

He also hailed the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern for solidarity and support she extended to muslims following the attack.

According to Ssemambo, UMSC will continue working with leaders of other faiths as well as government and civil society to de-radicalise communities, so that peace and tranquillity can prevail.
