Heavy rain destroys houses, plantations in Kamwenge

TRAGEDY

KAMWENGE - Residents in five villages of Kicheche - Kitagwenda sub-county, Kamwenge District are crying foul  following a heavy downpour that destroyed their houses and crops Sunday evening.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms and gusty winds, destroyed at least 30 houses and a number of plantations in the villages of, Kayanga, Kigoto, Kyakalangwe and Kagazi.

"As the rain started it was followed by strong winds and hailstorm which destroyed crops and houses," said Phinah Nimbi the woman parish councilor of Kigoto.

"Some of the affected residents slept at Kibumbi primary school classrooms due to lack of shelter at their homes. Government should come in to help its people," said Mutamba.

Silverio Bagonza one of the residents whose roof was blown off, called upon government to extend relief to the affected individuals by providing them with seeds, iron sheets and financial support.
