Residents of Kigongi in Kabale municipality now have reason to smile following the expected construction of a modern public toilet in their area.

The construction of this toilet was commissioned at a site next to the Central Division offices in Kigongi ward, Kabale municipality by the municipal authorities.

According to the Kabale Municipality mayor, Ssentaro Byamugisha, a section of residents through the Kigongi Bataka Tweyambe Group and the Slum dwellers federation wrote to the authorities begging for land to have the structure set up on.

The sh83m project will be funded by the Slum Dwellers Federation.

Ssentaro added that the facility will also have washrooms where people are expected to part with a small amount of money if they wish to have quick showers from.

"I believe this place is what has been needed because from the Central market up to this area along the Kabale- Mbarara road, there was no public toilet. I pray that people embrace this project for development," he said.

The contract to have this facility completed was handed over to Gist technologies limited, where Moses Arineitwe, the director promised to deliver as expected in the project.

"We shall ensure that this project is done professionally. All we need is support from the technocrats, municipal authorities, and locals to deliver the best of our ability," said Arineitwe.

Bonny Tumuranzye, the chairperson for Kigongi Bataka Tweyambe said that they will be adding more projects on ground if this is well implemented.

"We are sure that our funders will be excited if this project is successful and they shall give us more community projects if we implement this well," he said.
