Juma Balinya struck a hattrick against basement side Paidha Black Angels to take Police to eighth on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.

Balinya's goals in a 4-2 at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo took the attacking midfielder's season tally to 16 goals, and top of the scoring chart. Police now have 32 points

He is currently among the locally-based players summoned by coach Sebastien Desabre ahead of the encounter against Tanzania in the AFCON qualifiers.

"When I started the season, I had a target of scoring at least 15 goals but I now find myself leading the scoring chart. It has encouraged me that I can also win the golden boot. So I'm ready to continue to pursue this dream," stated Balinya after the match.

"I want to be part of the team that will represent the country in the AFCON finals. I'm going to do whatever I can on the pitch then I leave the rest to the coach (Desabre)," he added.

Skipper Paul Willa scored the other goal for Police who have now managed to win nine games this season.

The defeat compounded Paidha's chances of surviving relegation this season.

Elsewhere, Nelson Ssenkatuka scored a brace as Bright Stars defeated relegation-threatened Nyamityobora 2-1 at Champion Stadium in Mwererwe, Matugga.

At Kakyeka, Mbarara City played to a goalless draw with Ndejje University.
