Kaberamaido district council on Wednesday recognised the contributions of the fallen commissioner of Police, Christine Alalo, during a council session.

Alalo was aboard the Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, Kenya, which crashed on Sunday morning, six minutes after takeoff from Bole International Airport. 156 others perished in the tragedy.

In the council meeting, the leader of government business who is also the district vice chairperson, Samuel Okello, tabled the motion which was seconded by Immaculate Ilado.

Ilado is the directly elected woman councillor representing Kalaki and Kakure sub-counties in the Kaberamaido district council.

Okello said Alalo who comes from Kalaki sub-county in Kaberamaido district performed her duties diligently and died while executing the duties assigned to her.

"Can we all rise up and honour our sister Christine Alalo. May her soul rest in peace," said the speaker of the district council, Charles David Enepu.

Saluting Alalo's contribution, Okello said they had lost a strong performing officer in the Uganda Police Force who was helping to restore peace in Somalia after serving in different capacities.

"Her contribution was not only for Kaberamaido district, but it went up to the continental level and even beyond," Okello said.

Alalo who joined Uganda Police Force in 2001 as a cadet, was working with African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) as a peacekeeper, in Somalia.

Before working internationally with United Nations Mission in South Sudan and AMISOM, Christine Alalo headed the Department of Child and Family Protection Unit in Uganda. In 2014, she was awarded the EU Human Rights Defenders Award for her work in tackling, among other things, child abuse.
