Kabaka's Birthday Run is back

The run slated for Sunday 7th April will be divided between 5km, 10km and 21km and participants will be flagged off from the Kabaka’s palace in Lubiri, Mengo.

 
The sixth edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run will for the third year be aimed at fighting the Sickle Cell disease with a target of 60,000 participants set to grace the event, organized by the Buganda Kingdom in partnership with telecom giant, Airtel.  
 
Speaking at the launch of the run on Wednesday morning, the Kattikiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayega elaborated the meaning of celebrating the Kabaka's birthday,
 
"The Kabaka's life means the longevity of the heritage of Buganda Kingdom and that's why it is important to celebrate his birthday. Life has no meaning unless we give it a meaning," he said.
 
There are only two things that make us successful in life, good health and never losing hope and here we are talking about creating awareness for the sickle cell disease, so come and join us as we fight for our well being as Ugandans," he added.

V.G Somasekhar, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda the run's biggest spDirectorxpressed his delight to be working with the Kingdom again, "We as Airtel are very delighted to be back and we are honored by the opportunity given to us by the Buganda Kingdom to partner in such a noble cause. We have been in partnership through the Kabaka Foundation, and the Airtel Masaza Cup," he said.
 
The launch of the run was mainly graced by the sponsors who included Post Bank, Rwenzori Water who presented a dummy cheque of Ug Sh111m, MAAD Advertising who also presented a dummy cheque of UgSh25m, Events Warehouse among other notable figures, the Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation board director, Erostus Nsubuga and the Minister in charge of special assignments in the Kingdom, David Mpanga.
