Uganda's U17 soccer team taking part in UEFA tournament

The Uganda U-17 national team will use the UEFA Assist U17 International tournament to fine-tune their plans for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
 
The Cubs who are in Antalya, Turkey ahead their opening game against Cameroon on Tuesday will have a chance to play some of the teams they will meet in Nations Cup finals.
 
The tie against Cameroon was supposed to be played on Monday but was postponed to Tuesday  due to unfavourable weather conditions in Antalya
 
Uganda is placed in group two of the championship with Cameroon, Morocco, and Belarus while Group one comprises of Tanzania, Guinea, Australia, Turkey. Group three consists of Senegal, Nigeria, Angola, and Montenegro
 
Out of the eight teams that qualified for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, six will take part in Turkish competition.
 
Players born on January 1, 2002, or later are eligible to participate in the competition.
 
Gabon hosted the last edition of the championship (2017) that was won by Mali after beating rivals Ghana 1-0 in the final.
 
Uganda is the only country among the eight that is making its debut in the championship. They made it to the finals of the Nations Cup after defeating Ethiopia 3-1 in the final to emerge champions of CECAFA region.
