KAMPALA - A Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier attached to the President's Special Forces Command (SFC) has been remanded to Luzira prisons after appearing in court with two others on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

RA 205960 Private Michael Musinguzi and two civilians, Joseph Sseruwunge, a businessman in Kisenyi, downtown Kampala and Ambrose Ahimbisibwe appeared before Makindye Grade One Magistrate, Allan Gakyaro Mpiirwe who read the charges to them.

Court heard that on the night of October 9, 2018, the trio, together with several others still at large attacked John Bosco Wamala (55) and murdered him by strangulation.

They then wrapped his body in some clothes and locked it in his house, which also served as a warehouse, located near Movit Company in Nankinga Zone, Bunamwaya in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality.

They allegedly robbed from the warehouse building materials including aluminium extrusion profiles products worth over shs200m.  

According to the statement of the offence, Musinguzi was a friend of the accused and lived with him in the house, where he was in custody of the products. The accused allegedly loaded the items on a truck and sold them in Kisenyi.

According to police investigations, Musinguzi was tracked down and arrested from his home village in Isingiro district after four months of hiding. He later led police detectives to the arrest of his accomplices.

The magistrate did not allow the accused to take plea and remanded them until March 5, 2019.
