5-year-old killed in Makindye fire

This is the third incident involving fire to take place in Kampala in one week alone

Police in Kampala has launched investigations into the cause of the fire that claimed the life of the five-year-old.

The deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire identified the deceased as John Kite, son to John Akia.

Owoyesigyire said the tragic incident occurred on Thursday night when someone left a charcoal stove unattended to behind Clock Tower Mosque in Katwe II parish, Katende zone in Makindye division.

"Several structures belonging to the Karamojong community were destroyed, although our fire brigade team managed to put it out before it spread to other structures and properties," said Owoyesigyire.

Police's fire brigade crew later took the victim's body to Mulago mortuary and case file SD: 30/21/02/2019 was opened at Clock Tower Police Post.

According to Police, this is the third incident involving fire to take place in Kampala in one week alone.

The first incident was reported in Kisenyi slum on Wednesday where four children lost their lives while the second one occurred at Kampala City Academy in Najjanankumbi, on Kampala-Entebbe Road, on the same day.

Meanwhile, there was also another fire outbreak at St. Jude Primary School in Kakooge, Nakasongola district, that left one pupil dead.
