Ugandan Hockey is witnessing some of the most exciting hours of grassroots development in the region of East Africa.

The Targeted Assistance Programme (TAP-East Africa) has launched in Kenya and Uganda are key beneficiaries.

Courtesy of UK Sport and Federation of International Hockey (FIH), the fully fledged project is aimed at uplifting the standards of the game in the region. For the foreseeable future hockey specialists, umpires and coaches will conduct various camps.

With Olympic qualifies for the 2020 Tokyo games set for August, the regional programme comes at the right time.

The project launched with the TAP East Africa Hockey 5's tournament that ended Sunday in Nairobi at the City Park Stadium.

It was indeed a learning curve for both male and female Uganda select sides in spite of they were taken to school.

"We won't dwell much on the results but rather on the experience the players got from the tournament.  The players had a chance to test their abilities in foreign territory and against different opponents" said Vincent Kasasa, coach.

According to Kasasa, the technical aspects involved in the event made a huge difference.

Kasasa's credentials as well were uplifted after getting FIH level one qualification.
