With a reasonable sense of hits and misses, this year's Tusker Lite Friday Night Lights Basketball has presented a new understanding of the fun in basketball.

When curtains fell on the event Friday at Panamera Bar, Team Zama was the last side standing, winners of the eighth edition after stopping Team Ikong 21-20 in the final.

But not to take away anything from Zama, winning at this particular event did not necessarily end with the overall winners for almost everyone had the joy of champions.

"I came out here to support Ikong but with all the musical performances and entertainment there are no losers here. I'm going back home happy" said Peter Mugume, FNL fan.

A tournament largely defined by firsts, the organisers scored big in the change of format from the usual 5x5 to 3x3.

Throughout the campaign, the playing format has been hailed as more relatable to the fans.

"Playing half court with three people aside means that even the fans can actually play the game, this sort of flexibility attracts people," said Tom Ochamuringa tournament director.

Nonetheless, numbers at the event except for the final days have not been quite impressive which somehow undermined one of the goals which is to take the game to fans.

Conversely, the final day greatly outlived the expectations with overwhelming numbers and entertainment.

Popular female musician Nina Roz worked the crowd with her amazing vocals leaving fans yearning for more.

Equally interesting was the back throw Challenge and for the winners, sh 1.5m was good a supplement to their trophy with second best and third getting Sh1m and sh500,000 respectively.

In the end, the excitement was too much to dwell on any shortcomings!
