Museveni, Sudan VP hold talks

KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni and the Vice President of Sudan, Osman Mohamed Yusuf Kibir held bilateral talks on a number of issues related to regional peace on Tuesday.

Kibir, who jetted into the country Tuesday, was also treated to a sumptuous dinner at Serena Hotel Kampala during the launch of the Kansai Palscom's anti-mosquito paint.

"I would like to welcome the Vice President of Sudan who is here with us and his delegation," Museveni said.

Sudan's minister of labour and administrative reform, Bahr Idris Abu-Garda is also part of Kibir's delegation to Uganda.

According to Sudan's government media, Kibir's visit to Uganda is part of an Africa tour that also includes "carrying messages from President of the Republic of Sudan, Field Marshal Omar Al Bashir to presidents of the two countries dealing with bilateral relations and ways and means of boosting them."

Kibir will also visit Kenya.

The Sudan Vice President's visit comes at a time when Sudan is facing protests over high food costs.

Sudan, a member state of the Inter-Governmental Authority of Development (IGAD), is also a pivotal country in the peace process in neighbouring South Sudan, where two warring factions President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar signed the Khartoum peace deal.
