During a briefing today, Onesmus Oyesigye warned the public against treating vocational education as a refuge for failures.

He said the youth need to appreciate vocational skills as these provide greater prospects for job creation.

"Stereotyping vocational education as for failures depicts lack of career guidance. The students and the youth need to appreciate the critical areas, where there are greater prospects of job creation and huge demand for skilled human resource," he said.

Oyesigye called for intensified and compulsory career guidance in primary and secondary schools.

He advised parents to ensure that students go for upgrading in recognised institutions to enable them compete favourably with other graduates in the job market. However, Oyesigye advised parents to watch out for unlicensed institutions.

"Ensure that students enroll for certificate and diploma programmes after senior four and senior six to join training institutions registered by Ministry of Education and Sports, National Council for Higher Education and programmes examined by relevant National Examination Boards," said Oyesigye.
