Infant dies in Bundibugyo fire

BUNDIBUGYO - A one and a half-year-old infant has been killed by a fire that gutted Kituyi cell in Bundibugyo town council at around 11pm, Thursday.

It is alleged that the mother, identified as Gorret Masika, had gone to buy food at the shop, but left her two young children in the house with a burning candle.

"We saw fire flames in a bang and we rushed at the scene. We managed to rescue one of the infants but unfortunately the one and a half-year-old was already dead," said Kato Swaibu the LC1 chairman of Kituyi cell in Bundibugyo town council.

 

Bundibugyo Police commander Swaibu Taban, confirmed the incident and also said that the infant's body was taken to Bundibugyo hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile property worth millions of shillings has been destroyed by a fire that gutted rentals and a timber store belonging to one Abias Kanyankole in Kisenyi cell, Bundibugyo Town Council.

 

According to eye witnesses, the fire started at around 4:30am. The locals tried their best to put it out but all was in vain.

Bundibugyo DPC, Taban Swaibu said that the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
