CRIME

GULU - Angry residents of Kanyogoga sub-county in Gulu district stormed a church belonging to Pastor Okumu Batiringeya on Sunday morning, and burnt it.

The residents say, the church called 'Jesus is the Living stone', is a cult and has brought demons in their area.

One of the residents, Choowo Willy says the alleged cult doesn't allow its followers to wed. During Sunday services, the congregants have to be fully covered like Muslims and leave their shoes at the church entrance.

Police arrived at the scene, put out the fire and arrested the Pastor, whom they claim was ordered to close the church last Sunday.

Gulu CPS OC who also doubles as acting DPC, John Bosco Nyangkol says the owner of the church, Pastor Okumu Batiringeya was arrested for disobeying a lawful order and is in detention as investigations continue.
