Legendary Zimbabwean musician Mtukudzi dies

Zimbabwean legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi has passed on. He was 66 years old. Local media in Zimbabwe broke the news of Mtukudzi's death on Wednesday afternoon.

 According to local media, Mtukudzi's record label Gallo Records confirmed the news, but said "there were no other details available."

The media added that the musician's family was set to release a statement later.

An outpouring of tributes for Zimbabwe's most renowned and internationally recognised cultural icon has already flooded social media.

With his husky voice, Mtukudzi became the most recognised voice to emerge from Zimbabwe and onto the international scene and he has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond.

He has been to Uganda a number of times, with the most recent in June 2017 were he performed at a Kampala concert dubbed ‘Lock Down.'
