Makerere University gets new communications manager

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the university Vice-Chancellor has congratulated Kigunddu upon his new appointment.

Makerere University has appointed Dr. Muhammad Kigunddu as the new University manager of communications and international relations.

Kigunddu, a senior lecturer in the department of Humanities and Language and a former Makerere University Academic Staff Association -MUASA chairperson, takes over the acting role as the communications manager with immediate effect.

"The Vice-Chancellor has authorized an offer of an appointment to you as a manager, communications and International Relations in the office of the Vice-Chancellor for a period of one year with effect from January 18, 2019," said Andrew Abunyang, the university's Human Resource Manager.

Kigunddu will oversee the universities communications policy, over the next one year as well as offering secretarial support to the office of the Vice-Chancellor through monthly press briefings.

Other duties include monitoring news articles, reports, and periodicals about the university operations and monitoring and reviewing the coverage of the University in the media.

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the university Vice-Chancellor has congratulated Kigunddu upon his new appointment.

"I congratulate Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke upon his appointment as Manager Communications and International Relations. I believe he will revamp the two functions for the good of Makerere University," he wrote.

Professor Nawangwe also dismissed rumours that the Rita Namisango had been fired.

"The rumour that Rita Namisango has been fired is not true. Rita retains her position as Senior Public Relations Officer supervised by the newly appointed Manager Communications and International Relations," he noted.

Namisango was not available for comment.
