Museveni remembers Ngariam attack victims

Following the recent meeting between Museveni and over 90 leaders of Katakwi at Rwakitura, the President is expected to make public the creation of Ngariam county from Usuk.

KAROMOJONG   NGARIAM USUK MUSEVENI

President Yoweri Museveni is expected this Saturday to preside over a ceremony in memory of 38 people killed by suspected Karimojong cattle rustlers in Ngariam sub-county in Katakwi in 2001.

He is expected to make his pronouncement over his 2003 pledge of the decent burial of the victims, compensation for each of their families with sh5m, building a memorial school among others.

Following the recent meeting between Museveni and over 90 leaders of Katakwi at Rwakitura, the President is expected to make public the creation of Ngariam county from Usuk.

The prayers had started by 1:00pm, led by Fr. Julius Odeng of Magoro Catholic parish who encouraged people to forgive the killers. He encouraged locals to have the spirit of forgiveness for development.

Artistes, including Bebe Cool entertained the people as they waited for the President.

After Ngariam the President is expected to proceed for memorial prayers for George William Epel, the father to former education minister, Alupo Epel, at Ongongoja sub-county in Katakwi.
