Fake pastor, followers arrested in Katakwi

KATAKWI - Police in Katakwi district have arrested a ‘fake' pastor and three of his followers over unlawful assembly and impersonation.

Pastor James Emongit, 32, from Prayer Power Church Bukedea was arrested on Wednesday evening together with Douglas Elungat, 22, all residents of Ongurai village in Bukedea district.

Police said Maculate Achuna, a tailor and Mary Amuge, 45, who were picked by the pastor from their homes in Komolo parish in Wera Sub County, Amuria district were also apprehended.

East Kyoga Police Spokesperson, Michael Odongo said Emongit and his team was arrested after Police found them pretending to remove charm buried at a resident's home in Ocorimongin trading Centre, Katakwi Sub County.

Odongo said Emongit was hiding charms in his pockets and underwear claiming that he had removed them from the hole that was dag to withdraw the charms.

 "When Emongit was doing that, some people were observant and they raised alarm which attracted police to arrest him," Odongo said.

Odongo said the police are investigating the case of unlawful assembly and pretending to foretell.

The website learnt that before the pastor and his team offered to go to the village to remove the charms, they were given sh125, 000 and additional sh50, 000 for offertory plus the withdrawal fee of sh5, 000, totaling to 180, 000.
