The monarch who is also the UNAIDS Good will ambassador in Eastern and Southern Africa is committed to ending the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.

Although Uganda has made many successes in the fight against HIV/AIDS, new HIV infections remain high.

According to UNAIDS, Uganda registers an estimated 33 new HIV infections per day among young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years and comprehensive knowledge of HIV, as well as uptake of HIV prevention and treatment services among young people, remains low.

According to Uganda Population-Based HIV impact assessment UPHIA report of 2016, the national prevalence of HIV/AIDS was at 6% as compared to 30% in the early 1980's when many Ugandans were getting to know about the disease.

King Oyo also challenged parents to educate their children to fight poverty.

“I want to thank you for being hardworking people through this year and continue working so  we develop our Kingdom. Embrace education and send your children to school” Oyo said.

Omukama ended his message by wishing all his subjects a Merry Christmas and prosperous new year 2019.
