Cheptegei nursing injuries after accident

Common Wealth 10,000m and 5,000m gold medalist, Joshua Cheptegei is nursing injuries after surviving an accident in his home district of Kapachorwa.

Cheptegei, 22, also the 15 kilometre world record survived the accident on Thursday when the car he was travelling in was hit by another car.

He took to twitter to thank God for having enabled him survive the accident.

"Grateful to my #GOD for saving me from a terrible accident in Kapchorwa town... another car while trying to connect to the highway lost control and hit me. I thank the @PoliceUg Kapchorwa for intercepting the car that knocked me while trying to take off. I am recovering steadily," Cheptegei wrote on his twitter.

Cheptegei's accident came two days after the Siipi-Kapchorwa accident which claimed over 20 lives when a bus they were travelling in overturned.

 



He posted the photo of his damaged car. When New Vision contacted him he said he is recovering from a few injuries.

"I got a few injuries and little bit traumatized, but I'm not in a bad state. I thank God because it would have been bad if it wasn't his merciful hand," Cheptegei said.

2018 has been a fruitful year for Cheptegei who started it with brilliant victories over 10,000m and 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

He also had great performance when he clocked 45:15 for 10 miles in Amsterdam Dam to Damloop on 23 September. 

Again at the Durban 10km race in South Africa he clocked 27:16 on October 23.

His world record was befitting end of a fruitful year.
