Kyambogo University vows to stay on top

The 2018 Pepsi University Football League champions, Kyambogo University has vowed to continue motivating players in a bid to attain positive results and maybe retain the league title next season.

The university Vice Chancellor Prof. Elia Katunguka who was a sportsman in his university days said they must work hard to maintain the team in good shape to be ready for the next year's challenge.

"Supporting our players and motivating them with incentives would maintain the team as a unit and probably steer them to greater heights," Katunguka made the remarks as the team was presenting the trophy to the University Council on Tuesday.

 
Kyambogo University put up a surprise performance as they beat the defending champions; Uganda Martyr's University- Nkozi at the Semis and edged Kampala University 3-2 in penalties to emerge champions after over eight years of drought.

Katunguka said, this was arguably the most interesting final in the competition's history as they exhibited great skills and discipline.

The Chairman university council, Prof. John Okedi hailed the team for their success that has made the university proud.

"Kyambogo University was known for its academics, research and teaching excellence but you have made us join the giants in sports," he said.

He pledged the council's support to the team for more titles in even other sports disciplines.

University football team captain, Racmac Ashaba hailed his team for their excellent performance displayed during the tournament.

"We played well and all is because we played as a team. I am happy for what we put up and I thank all my teammates for what they have offered," Ashaba said.
